When businesses that are either manufacturing food or distributing or serving it to the public are trying to conform to industry standards there will be a lot of health and safety rules and regulations that need to be adhered to if they want to conform and achieve the desired food hygiene certification. Global standards such as BRC food certification demonstrates to businesses and their customers that they have conformed to the industry standards, which is reassuring all around.
There is no excuse for food related manufacturers, handlers and distributors to not have the relevant food safety certification, even if they are not producing or directly serving food and drink products themselves they will need to be aware of the correct ways to store and handle these items. This information will be set out in the standards for that particular industry and in order to gain the relevant certification businesses will need to undergo an audit procedure which will see them being visited by an external auditor.
This auditor who will be expertly trained and skilled in the relevant industry and the food regulations associated with it, will visit the premises to compile a report on whether or not the company is conforming to certain criteria. The report will highlight any failures or instances of non-compliance, which if only minor may mean that the business has time to rectify the issue and reapply for assessment.
If the report shows all areas have been complied to and any issues correctly addresses then the auditor may recommend the company for the relevant food hygiene certification. Once the governing bodies have agreed and the certification has been issued the business will be free to display any relevant certificates within their premises and advertise the fact that they comply with the necessary global industry standards.
Food safety certification exists to keep the consumer safe and also to ensure that those working with food and beverage products are safe themselves in the work that they do and understand why food needs to be prepared, handled and served in the ways recommended. Thus certification protects everyone and ensures that food items are always safe for consumption.
